George James, Senior, was from Bristol, England. 1

He was married to Elizabeth. 2

He was living in about 1716 in Spanish Town with a wife, 6 children and 5 enslaved people.3

On 18 November 1717, he and his family, which consisted of his wife and seven children, along with 16 enslaved persons were accounted for as living at Spanish Town.4

Prior to 6 January 1717/1718, he along with several others from Spanish Town and Tortola petitioned the British King for permission to settle on St. Croix. 5

By 1850, 29 he was married to Catherine, who was born on St. Croix, free, in about 1797 and was baptized in the Catholic Church. 30 From about 1814 to 1824, she had a relationship with an unknown Smith. 31

In October 1857, they were living at her home at 57 Hospital Street, Frederiksted, and he was employed as a Cooper. 32

In October 1846, she was living at 29 King’s Street, Frederiksted [with her father - above?]. 38

In 1846, she was living at 11 Strand Street, Frederiksted, free, married and serving as a nurse in the household of merchant William Moore. Also living with her, was her daughter, Ann Eliza James, who was born at the West End, St. Croix in about 1845 and was baptized in the Lutheran Church. 40

In 1911, she was a widow, and a seamstress by profession, living at her own property, 44 Prince’s Street, Frederiksted, with her grand children, Prah James and Ingledue Oliver.45

3. Ralph Ignacius James was born on 13 September 1922 at estate Concordia, West End Quarter.

He attended St. Patrick's Primary School and Christiansted High School, where he received his diploma in 1942. In 1942, he joined the U. S. Coast Guard and served from 1942-1946. He was in the Merchant Marine for 30 years, until 1996, when he retired.

He was married to Eunella. He died in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. on 11 February 2003.

1. Ullmont Lenhart James was born in New York City on March 4, 1914. At age, he returned home to St. Croix with his parents and attended local schools, graduating as a member of the first class of the Christiansted Senior High School in 1936. He went on to Howard University in Washington, D.C., graduating magna cum laude in Mathematics. He also took graduate courses at Catholic University, Chicago University and the University of Pittsburgh.50

On returning home he held a variety of government positions. In 1961, he took up a series of positions with the U.S. governments, International Cooperation Administration, which today is USAID, which took him to a variety of countries on the African continent. Later he held positions in Washington, D.C.51

On his retirement in 1980, he served the Territory’s Representative as the Administrative Assistant in Washington, D.C., at the same time teaching mathematics at Howard University.52

He was married to Theresa Hack of Richmond, Virginia.53
