Basic Courses on Aerobiology aim for the scientific and technical training of students, graduates and researchers for performing aerobiological monitoring. The Courses are organized biannually by the European leading authorities in aerobiology.
The 8th Basic Course on Aerobiology will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia from 12-18 July 2007, and it will be consisted of: LECTURES (approximately 15 hours) which will cover topics such as:
airborne particles (aerodynamics, dispersal); plant identification; pollen (development, biology, function, production, release, structure, morphology); fungal spores (development, biology, function, production, release, structure, morphology); allergy; sampling in aerobiology (Hirst volumetric trap, microscopy); analysis of samples collected by Hirst volumetric trap; basic statistics in aerobiology; forecasting in aerobiology (methods, pollen and meteorology); EAN (European Aerobiological Networks) and EPI (European Pollen Information System); quality control in routine aerobiological monitoring
PRACTICAL EXCERCISES (approximately 25 hours) which will cover:
operation of volumetric trap; sampling surface and slide preparation; Airborne pollen/spores concentration calculation; data presentation; pollen identification (Alnus, Corylus, Betula, Cupressaceae, Taxaceae, Populus, Salix, Pinaceae, Quercus, Platanus, Carpinus, Poaceae, Plantago, Fraxinus, Olea, Ligustrum, Fagus, Rumex, Castanea, Chenopodiaceae, Amaranthaceae, Asteraceae Liguliflorae, Artemisia, Ambrosia, Mercurialis); fungal spore identification (Aspergillus, Alternaria, Cladosporium, Epicoccum, Stemphylium, Penicillium, Polythriuncium, Torula, Fusarium, Dydimella, Drechslera, Pleospora); scanning and counting of slides; Data input software (also suitable for input directly during your work at the microscope) with the option for automated data transfer in suitable format for EAN database.
EXAMINATION (theoretical test; scanning, identification and counting of test slides)
The participation fee is 600 EUROS and it includes all course materials (script, reference slides, certificates, consumables), accommodation, meals (breakfasts, lunches, dinners, coffee/tee brakes) and weekend excursion but NOT travel expenses.
