The Packera Á. Löve & D. Löve (1976), Bot. Not. 128: 520 group

Comments:

(1) In addition to those below Löve & Löve (1975) include P. aurea (L.) Á. Löve & D. Löve (1976), Bot. Not. 128: 520 [Senecio aureus L. (1753), Sp. Senecio aureus seems to reach only north to James Bay, south of our Arctic. I have no idea whether S. fernaldii is in any way much different from S. resedifolia except for the ploidy difference that is behind the Löves' treatment. (Elven)
The Senecio resedifolius aggregate (S. hyperborealis, S. ogotorukensis, S. resedifolius)

Comments:

(1) The three entities entered as species here seem to be closely related and may represent different ploidy levels. Senecio hyperborealis subsp. hyperborealis and S. ogotorukensis are reported with 2n=42, S. hyperborealis subsp. wrangelica with 2n=138, and S. resedifolius with a wide range from 2n=28 to 92. This may indicate that the systematics is a bit confused still. (Elven)

Comments:

(1) Cody (1996) applies S. cymbalaria as valid name. Check! Both 'heterophylla' (1812) and 'cymbalaria' (1814) has priority before 'resedifolia' (1831). However, 'heterophylla' is probably inapplicable in Senecio (but might be applicable in Packera). The 'cymbalaria' question probably hangs on the identity between the plants behind the types. (Elven)

(2) The high-ploid counts of 2n=138 was referred by Löve & Löve (1975) to Packera fernaldii but was originally assigned by Zhukova & Petrovsky to S. hyperborealis and have been transferred to S. hyperborealis subsp. wrangelica. (Elven)

The Senecio integrifolius aggregate (S. integrifolius, S. jacuticus, S. tundricola)

Comments:

(1) A fairly intricate and disjunct group that European authors often have treated as races of a widely defined S. integrifolius whereas Russian and most North American authors have gone for species. Here I propose that we follow the latter course even if that implies a very strange distribution for S. integrifolius itself (see the map in Fl. Arct. URSS 10, p. 220). (Elven)
