Review and Outlook of China’s Fruit/vegetable Juice/drink Industry 2009-2010

3.1 Demand for Fruit/vegetable Juices/drinks in 2009




3.1.1 Market Scale of Fruit/vegetable Juices/drinks


The revenue of the core business of the industry of fruit/vegetable juices/drinks was 37,620,928,000 yuan from January to August 2009, 8.38% higher year on year; the total profit was 2,490,409,000 yuan, up 15.23% year on year.

3.1.2 Market Features of Fruit/vegetable Juices/drinks


The market saw the following three features in 2009.
(1) Drastic growth of lemon juice market in 2009

The import of lemon juice (Brix<20) and other types of lemon juice (Brix≥20) had been so-so for a long time, but the import has seen a rapid growth since 2008, especially lemon juice (Brix≥20) which is concentrated. China imported 8,452 tons of concentrated lemon juice in 2009, valuing 20,158,000 US dollars, up 5.6 folds and 5.9 folds from 2008 respectively. The origin was mainly Israel.


BOABC attributes this drastic growth of concentrated lemon juice import to the rising domestic demand. The demand for concentrated lemon juice of raw material grade from the domestic soft drinks producers broke a historical record in 2009 alongside the putting on market and popular sales of lemon drinks such as Water Dissolvable C100 from Nongfu Spring, Hello-C from Wahaha and Lemon Me from Huiyuan, and the joining in of Meizhiyuan C Lemon from Coca Cola.
