Read the following material:
1. Section 2.7 of the on-line notes on Doing Integrals with Mathematica ( __www-personal.umd.umich.edu/~fmassey/math116/Notes/ch2/2.7 Doing Integrals with Mathematica.nb__ )
Problem: Do the following.
i. (4 pts) Find the derivative of *e*^{2}^{x} tan^{-1}(ln *x*) + . Do this both by hand and using the D function in Mathematica or Wolfram Alpha. If the answers are different, show that they are equivalent.
ii. (6 pts) Find . Do this both by hand and using Mathematica or Wolfram Alpha. If the answers are different, show that they are equivalent.
iii. (1 pts) Use Factor command in Mathematica or Wolfram Alpha to factor *x*^{3} + 4*x*^{2} + 5*x* + 2.
iv. (4 pts) Find the partial fraction expansion of . Do this both by hand and using Apart in Mathematica or Wolfram Alpha. Your answer to part iii should be helpful.
Include a printout of your computer work showing your input and the software's output. If you use Wolfram Alpha, you may need to cut and paste the input and output into Microsoft Word or capture the screen output some other way. |
