To participate in this study, start with the first separation above the Dawes limit (see text) for your aperture, beginning with the least difference in magnitude. If you can't see that pair from where you live, go to the next one in line which is visible to you. For example, southern hemisphere observers using 100-mm (1.2" Dawes limit) would begin with 39 in Carina at the intersection of 1.5" and 1.0 magnitude difference; those of the northern hemisphere would start with Σ 2303 in Scutum at the 1.5"/2.5 intersection, or 33 Orionis at the 2.0"/1.0 intersection. Go to the next widest separation if you can't split that first pair. Whatever separation you can first split, keep trying greater mag differences for that separation until you can't get resolution. Then go to the next widest separation and proceed the same way.
