Stating Preference with "would rather"

[Spanish: The Condor Pass (pass = a route or road through mountains)] "would rather __"= (modal + adv + v) expresses preference, that is, the liking or choosing of one thing over another.
I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail. Yes I would, if I could, I surely would. "I'd rather + any v" The contraction "I'd" for "I would" plus any verb is a high frequency structure, e.g., "I'd rather go (see, eat, etc").
I’d rather be a hammer than a nail. Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would. "I'd rather + any v" is often used with "than"as shown in the lines above. After "than" a noun phrase may is used, e.g. "than a nail".
Away, I’d rather sail away like a swan that’s here and gone. Often "than" is not used, but the idea of a choice between two or more things, people, ideas, feelings, etc. etc. exists in discourse.
A man gets tied up to the ground. He gives the world it’s saddest sound, its saddest sound. The use of the modal "would" shows a conditional mood, that is, the result of an imagined event or happening.
I’d rather be a forest than a street. Yes I would, if I could, I surely would. "would rather + verb" is used with many tenses, e.g. present tense: "I'd rather visit my aunt than visit my uncle." or "visit my uncle".
I ’d rather feel the earth beneath my feet. Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would. e.g. present perfect tense: "The French restaurant was pleasant, but I would rather have gone to an Italian one."
I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail. Yes I would, if I could, I surely would. e.g. present progressive tense: "I would rather be taking a nap than studying English." ("much rather" can be used)
I’d rather be a hammer than a nail. Yes I would, if I only could, I surely would. ***** Notice that in the above lines, the verb ("be", or any 2nd verb) does not have to be repeated, although it can be for emphasis.
