Composer, orchestrator and conductor Jules Buckley is a musical pioneer who pushes the boundaries of contemporary genres.

He is the Chief Conductor of Holland’s Metropole Orkest, whose recent highlights include a Grammy Award for Sylva, their lauded collaboration with Snarky Puppy, as well as acclaimed collaborations with: Wretch 32 and other UK Grime artists for the BBC 1Xtra Prom, Laura Mvula (a recording and live BBC Prom), Gregory Porter, Kurt Elling, Tori Amos, Markus Stockhausen, Michael Kiwanuka, UK house music duo Basement Jaxx and two Latin Grammy nominations.

Buckley is also the co-founder the Heritage Orchestra, a flexible chamber ensemble, dedicated to performing new music with a daring approach to crossing and linking musical genres. They made their BBC Proms debut in 2010 with Jamie Cullum and have had a string of high profile performances in other contexts including the Vivid Festival at the Sydney Opera House with Live_Transmission (a Joy Division Remix project) and the world premiere of Moroder Reworked - an epic electro-orchestral tribute to the 'godfather of EDM', which brings Giorgio Moroder from the club to the Concert Hall. Heritage Orchestra also appeared in James Lavelle’s Meltdown, where they joined drum and bass icon and graffiti artist, Goldie, in an expanded and reworked orchestral version of Timeless (Sine Tempore). In 2015 they impressed at the BBC Proms with the ‘Ibiza Prom’ developed in conjunction with Radio 1’s Pete Tong and have collaborated with UK singer-songwriter Anna Calvi at the Holland Festival, Edinburgh Festival and David Byrne’s Meltdown.

Ever the musical agitator, Buckley’s work has led to collaborations, recordings and live projects with an astonishing range of musical collaborators including Massive Attack, Arctic Monkeys, John Cale, Emeli Sandé, Cinematic Orchestra, Caro Emerald, Professor Green, Beardyman, Chilly Gonzales, Tim Minchin and Dizzee Rascal. Recent highlights include: his debut with the Hamburg Ballett in collaboration with the NDR Big Band and the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra; a performance of the widely admired collaboration between Dino Saluzzi and Anja Lechner with the orchestra of NorrlandsOperan as part of Umeå Jazz Festival; and performances with the WDR Rundfunkorchester and WDR Big Band; L'Orchestre Nationale d'ile de France with Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson; the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in collaboration with Jose James and Rotterdam Philharmonisch with Dutch trumpet sensation Eric Vloeimans and orchestrating and conducting the score for the forthcoming film, ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ (Dir: Alexandre Aja).
