J. Edward Lewis Scholarship Trust
Scholarship Application Deadline is January 31st
Purpose. The Scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to deserving graduates of Collins High School, now known as Oak Hill High School, of Oak Hill, West Virginia, secondarily to graduates from any high school in Fayette County, West Virginia, or lastly to any deserving graduate from any high school in the state of West Virginia who wishes to attend Washington and Lee University.
Scholarship Amounts. - Award amounts will be determined year to year based on available funds and the number of qualified applicants.
Selection Committee. A committee of three (3) residents of Fayette County, West Virginia, shall be selected by JP Morgan Chase Bank, N.A., as the Trustee of this Charitable Educational Trust. The selection shall be made in the absolute discretion of the trustee. Current committee members are as follows:
1) Judge Charles M. Vickers
2) Oak Hill High School, Tim Payton, Principal
3) Oak Hill United Methodist Church, Charles Miller, Pastor
Guidelines. The following guidelines are used when selecting individuals as scholarship recipients.
Recipients must be residents of the state of West Virginia and must have completed high school or possess an equivalent certification. Preference will be given to graduates of high schools located in Fayette County, and primary consideration will be given to graduates of Oak Hill High School.
Recipients must have a 3.0 GPA and must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to be considered from year to year.
A renewal application must be submitted each year for continued consideration and a transcript must be attached to each application.
A copy of the student’s FAFSA or previous year tax return must be included with each first time applicant.
Recipients must have applied for, and been accepted for full-time admission to Washington Lee University. (Funds are available for both undergraduate and graduate studies.)
Applications may be obtained from JPMorgan upon request.
Completed applications with required attachments must be postmarked by January 31st each year.
The selection committee will evaluate applications and make decisions based on the above criteria.
Students will be notified of final decisions and provided with a form for completion directing the funding of the scholarship. Enrollment verification, including full-time status, will be required prior to release of the funds.
Funds will be issued payable to Washington and Lee University on behalf of the student.
