Tromsø Arctic-Alpine Botanic Garden –

  1. The large blue poppy (Meconopsis ’Lingholm’, top right). This is a garden hybrid, which had a chromosome doubling and therefore behaves like a distinct species. It is the common blue one several places in the Garden. Top left, the true wild M. grandis, one of its parents with more violet-blue flowers. It flowers now in our Himalaya, together with several mostly biannual blue species (below, right). The Tibetan blue poppy (M. baileyi, before betonicifolia; below left) has a less distinct blue colour. It flowers later, but has just started near the Café tables.

  1. The stemless gentian (Gentiana acaulis) on the top of the Gentiana Hill.

  1. Mat-forming Phlox species in our Nord-Amerika. Nice flowering also in our Caucasus and among the traditional North Norwegian garden plants.

  1. The Saxifraga collection. The Mossy Saxifrages towards the north, and the Silver Saxifrages on top of the rigde down towards the lower N-facing cliff face.

  1. Notice full bloom also outside the Garden – the meadow is now white from cow parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris).

  1. Still flowering among the rhododendrons, see the deviating Camtchatka Rhododendron (Therorhodion camtchaticum) in the uppermost part of the small valley.
