KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Newspapers in Kansas City, Cape Girardeau and Park Hills topped the list of winners in the 2008 Missouri Associated Press Managing Editors writing and photo competition.

The winners were announced June 8, and their awards will be presented at the Missouri Press Association's annual convention in October. At that time, the Sweepstakes Award winner — chosen from all the first-place winners — will be announced.

The Kansas City Star and the Southeast Missourian of Cape Girardeau each won six first-place awards in their respective divisions, while the Park Hills Daily Journal won four first-place awards in its category.

Division I competition included AP member newspapers in cities with population of more than 50,000; Division II, for cities of population between 15,000 to 50,000, and Division III, for cities under 15,000 population. Judging was conducted by AP member newspapers in Tennessee.
