  • Description: This perennial that is usually grown as an annual is one of the most decorative daisies.

  • Origin: South Africa.

  • Height x width: 1 to 1.5 feet tall and 1 foot wide.

  • Growth habit: Ground-hugging with upright flower stems.

  • Foliage: 5- to 10- inch long and 3-inch wide basal leaves on petioles 6 to 8 inches long, leaf margins lobed or cleft.

  • Flowers: 3 inches wide or wider with ray petals in shades of white, pink, yellow, orange or red on long stems in spring and summer. Petals may be arranged in single rows or several rows.

  • Culture: Full sun to part shade in hot areas, and fertile, well-drained soil. Water often in the summer.

  • Pests and problems: Susceptible to powdery mildew.

  • Uses: Excellent cut flower, bedding plant, greenhouse specimen.

  • Other facts of interest: Although hardy only to Zone 8, several plants have survived outdoors for three years in front of our Agriculture building on the Missouri State University campus in Springfield, MO. We suspect pipes that carry steam to heat buildings are buried under or near the landscape bed where these plants grow.

  • Propagation: Seed, division.
