Download and Play YouTube Videos

(The Easy Way)

There’s an easy way to download YouTube videos to your computer. The hard part is playing them because of the format they are in (Flash). Your best bet may be to link to the video and play it live (which uses bandwidth each time, unfortunately).
The steps to download…

  1. Find a video.

  2. Copy the URL

  3. Paste the URL into http://vixy.net or http://mux.am to convert to a standard format. Or paste the URL into http://keepvid.com, http://javimoya.com or http://www.cinemaforge.com to keep the video in Flaash.

  4. Download the video (to the D: drive or to your My Documents folder)

  5. Play the video (if Flash, using a free standalone Flash Video (FLV) player
http://ushistory.tusd.us/flvplayer.exe). If converted you can also insert the video into a PowerPoint presentation.

1. Find a video on YouTube

  1. Go to http://youtube.com

  2. Type in a term and search in the upper right corner.

2. Copy the URL

  1. Highlight and copy the address at the top of your screen
    (right-click or Edit-Copy)

3. Paste the URL

Covert to Standard Video (easier to use but lower quality)

    1. Navigate to either http://vixy.net or to http://mux.am.

    2. Paste (right-click or Edit-Paste) the URL into the box.

    3. Click Start (unless you want to change to a different format to AVI).

  1. Wait for the file to convert from Flash to your selected format.

  2. Download the Video

  3. Click on “Save.”

  4. Rename and save the video to the D: drive or to your My Documents folder.

Or Save in the Flash Video Format…

  1. Navigate to either http://keepvid.com, http://javimoya.com or http://www.cinemaforge.com.

  2. Paste (right-click or Edit-Paste) the URL into the box.

  3. Select “Youtube” from the drop-down.

  4. Click on “Download” to download the video.

4. Download the Video (Flash)

  1. Click on the “Download Link” link that appears to download the video.

  2. Click on “Save” when asked.

  3. Rename and save the video to the D: drive or to your My Documents folder, adding .flv to the end (i.e. myvideo.flv).

5. Play the Video (Flash)

  1. Download one of many free Flash video players: http://ushistory.tusd.us/flvplayer.exe

  2. Save this anywhere you’d like.

  3. Run the player and open your flash video
or just double-click on the downloaded video…
