ORDER: MUCORALES
I. Examine the prepared slides of Rhizopus stolonifer. Find an example of the asexual reproductive parts. Illustrate and label the structures that you observe in the space provided below.

II. Examine the prepared slides of Rhizopus stolonifer. Find an example of the sexual reproductive parts. Illustrate and label the structures that you observe.

III. Preparing a tease mount slide from living fungal culture. A demonstration by the instructor and practice activity for students.
IV. With the living culture of Rhizopus provided, scrape a small amount of the material onto a dissecting needle and jab it into the side of a fresh cucumber, sweet potato, and green pepper. Place the inoculated fruit or root into a plastic bag and seal. Label the bag with your name and the date. Prepare a separate set of uninoculated fruits and roots that are not inoculated to act as the CONTROL in this experiment.
V. Using your textbook, sources available on the internet, and other available materials, create a fact sheet on two of the following fungal genera.


1. Absidia

6. Pilobolus

2. Apophysomyces

7. Phycomyces

3. Cunninghamella

8. Rhizopus

4. Mortierella

9. Spinellus

5. Mucor

10. Thamnidium

Give name of genus, estimated number of species currently described, habitat, ecology, potential benefits and problems members of this genus may cause for humans and other organisms, and other interesting information. Include photographs and/or illustrations if available. Be sure give a list of references from which you obtained your your facts. Do not plagiarize; paraphrase!
