This is a sizeable genus of true leaf miners in North America, with some 42 species recognized in North America (Spencer & Steyskal, 1986). Their larvae are associated with various genera of monocots. The North American species are listed below, along with their known host plants, and distributions. Seven subgenera are recognized. The adults are generally black in color.

I have swept a few specimens of this genus from wetland monocots in northeastern Ohio. They were probably leaf miners of Carex, Juncus, and Scirpus, but I have no rearing records.
