Procedure:
Before you Begin:

Write “O Canada” on the whiteboard.

Ask the participants if they have heard Canada’s national anthem/song.

Introduce the song. Tell the participants that they will listen to
“O Canada”: 2-4 times. They will listen to the words of the song-“lyrics”.
4. The facilitator can write the word-“lyrics” on the whiteboard.

First time-listen. Second time-listen to the words, again (if they like, they can sing it).

Click on the English version or Bilingual version (MP3 file).

Group the students into groups of 3.
-
Give each group a package of the lyrics.
-
Each group is to put the lyrics or words in order.
-
Some of the words are missing. Each group must write and fill-in the missing words on the blank cards.
-
The facilitator will circulate among the groups and monitor each group’s progress.
-
Each group will share their results (If they like, they can “sing” their version of the lyrics).
-
Post the “O Canada Anthem/Song” on the whiteboard.
-
Then, the groups will check each other’s versions.
Extension Activity #1: Give them a time limit of 5 minutes or less and see which
group fills-in the words and correctly puts the words in
order. The first group who calls out “Finish or O Canada”
when the words are in correct order-“WINS!”
Play a few times.
Extension Activity #2: Give the groups only 5 minutes. Have all the word cards of
each group on a table. Only one person from each group
is allowed to come to the table to choose the correct
word cards (5 words at a time). The group members help
each other find the correct words. Words cards that
are not needed are returned to the table.
The first group who calls out “Finish or O Canada” when
the words are in correct order-“WINS!”
Play a couple times.
Extension Activity #3: For more of a challenge- The game is played as above
but not all the words card are placed on the table.
The facilitator will tell each group that more than one
word is missing from each phrase.
