  1. The body plan of hexapods is slightly different than other arthropods. Using Figure 21.2 or 21.6, draw an insect’s body plan. Label: Head, Thorax, Prothorax, Mesothorax, Metathorax, Abdomen, Wings, Compound eye, Antenna, Walking legs, Mandible/Maxilla region, and site of reproduction/genital pores.

  2. Many hexapods are classified by their adaptive traits, which include legs, wings, antenna and mouthparts. Draw and color 3 different antenna (pg. 444) and 2 different mouthparts (pg. 450).

  3. Many insects use Metamorphosis. Illustrate and explain Complete (Fig. 21.22) and Incomplete (Fig. 21.25) Metamorphosis. Label each stage in the cycle.

  4. Many insects use different behavior, or defense tactics to increase their rate of survival. Explain and Illustrate Diapause, Mimicry, and Crypsis. Use color when appropriate.

  5. Copy and complete the chart:
