Using TI TUSB3210 EEPROM Flash Tool for TVP51XX EVMs
This tool is used to flash USB firmware into EEPROM on USB-based TI evaluation
modules (EVMs). This applies to EVMs for the TVP5158, TVP5151 and THS8135
and future Analog Video Decoder EVMs.
NOTE: This procedure is ONLY necessary if USB communication with the TI EVM cannot be established. This could occur if the EEPROM for the TUSB3210 USB Controller was not properly programmed at the factory.
When connecting the USB cable from the PC to the TI TVP5158, TVP5151 or THS8135 Evaluation Module
the green LED near the USB connector on the EVM does not light.
When the Video Control Center (VCC) EVM software is started, a message appears indicating
“USB: Device Not Found”
If this problem occurs, the procedure illustrated below must be performed in the following order:
Install the TI TUSB3210 EEPROM Tool for TVP51XX EVMs.
Run New Hardware Found Wizard to install ApLoader Windows driver
Reflash EEPROM for TUSB3210 USB controller on the TI EVM.
Installing TI TUSB3210 EEPROM Tool for TVP51XX EVMs
Install by running the provided Setup.exe or by double-clicking the file “TI TUSB3210 EEPROM Tool for TVP51XX EVM.msi”.
Installing ApLoader.sys Driver for TUSB3210 Boot via USB
Connect USB Cable from PC to TI EVM board. If the green LED near the USB connector on the EVM does not light and a Found New Hardware Wizard appears, the procedure in this document needs to be performed to flash the USB EEPROM, before the Video Control Center software can be used.
NOTE: Change button setting to “No, not this time” and click Next.
Select “Install from Software Automatically” and click Next.
Click “Continue Anyway”.
Click Browse button…
Browse to c:\windows\system32\drivers\APLoader.sys
Complete Found New Hardware Wizard.
Flashing EEPROM for TUSB3210 USB Controller
Disconnect USB cable from EVM. Wait 3 seconds. Connect USB cable to EVM.
Green LED should now light if ApLoader.sys has been installed as described in Section I.
Run TI TUSB3210 EEPROM Tool for TVP51XX EVMs..
If version shows v49.1.0, TUSB3210 booted from Windows via USB and EEPROM needs to be flashed.
Click “Put Image on EEPROM” to flash the EEPROM. Progress indicator will appear for 4-5 sec.
Should see successful write to EEPROM message.
Click “Validate Image on EEPROM”. Progress indicator will appear for 4-5 sec.
Should see “Validate EEPROM Image successful” message.
Disconnect USB cable from EVM. Wait 3 seconds. Connect USB cable to EVM. Should automatically read the firmware version and display version 49.1.1. EEPROM is now flashed correctly to work with the VCC application software.
If the green LED on the EVM next to the USB connector does not light, check Windows
Device Manager. To do this, R-Click Properties on the MyComputer Icon, click the Hardware tab,
then click Device Manager.
If a device is found under Universal Serial Bud Controllers under USB Devices and the Details tab has
VID=0451 / PID=2136, the USB EEPROM needs to be flashed. Perform procedure in Sections I – III.
Figure 1 - TI EVM Needs USB EEPROM Flashed
If the USB EEPROM has been flashed correctly and is working properly, the green LED will light
when the USB cable is connected to the EVM. In Windows Device Manager expand “Human Interface Devices”. Check the Details tab under items named “USB Human Interface Device.” If the Details tab has VID=0451 / PID=5F00, the TI EVM has a properly programmed USB EEPROM and is functioning properly on the USB bus. Video Control Center EVM software can be used with the EVM.
