October 20, 2002 Ai Guo-xiang of National Astronomical Observatories was elected to be an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Third World.
October 30, 2002 In memory of the 100th birthday of the astronomer Prof. Zhang Yu-zhe, Purple Mountain Observatory held a forum and published "Memorial Papers in Memory of the 100th Birthday of Prof. Zhang Yu-zhe".
October 31, 2002 The tenth national congress of Chinese Astronomical Society (hereafter abbreviated as CAS) was held in Nanjing, There were 120 representatives and the tenth executive council was elected. Su Ding-xiang became its chairman.
December 18, 2002 Sheshan Station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory was chosen to be one of the second groups of "Bases of Scientific and Technical Education for Youth and Children".
December 2002 CAS submitted to International Astronomical Union (hereafter abbreviated as IAU) an application for the inauguration of its 27th general assembly.
July 13-26, 2003 A delegation of 89 persons organized by CAS joined the 25th general assembly of IAU in Sydney, Australia. In this meeting Fang Cheng was elected to be a vice-president of IAU and Nan Ren-dong -- the vice-chairmen of Division 10 and Commission 40.
October 2-8, 2003 A delegation of 8 persons organized by CAS joined the 8th International Astronomical Olympic Competition held in Stockholm, Sweden.
October 28-30, 2003 The 2003 annual academic meeting of CAS was held in Beijing. There were about 300 participants, 14 invited reports and 170 reports in subcommissions.
November 2003 Lu Tan of Purple Mountain Observatory was elected to be an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
November 2003 Xiong Da-ren of Purple Mountain Observatory was awarded with a prize of scientific and technical progress of He Liang & He Li Foundation.
December 8-11, 2003 In memory of the 120th anniversary of birth of the famous astronomer Zhu Wen-xin, an academic meeting was held in Kunsan, Suzhou.
March 2004 The network of CAS was formally opened. Its website is http://www.pmo.ac.cn.
April 28, 2004 Vice-chairman of National People's Congress and president of Chinese Academy of Sciences academician Lu Yong-xiang together with his followers inspected Purple Mountain Observatory and Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology.

November 7, 2004 The 3rd meeting of the 10th executive council of CAS decided to apply the holding of Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting of IAU in 2008 and to establish the leading group of the convention of the 28th general assembly of IAU.
November 7-12, 2004 The 2004 annual academic meeting of CAS was held in Xiamen City of Fujian Province. There were 211 participants, 11 invited reports and 137 reports in group meetings.
November 13, 2004 State councilor Chen Zhi-li inspected National Astronomical Observatories.
November 16, 2004 The opening ceremony of Shanghai Astronomical Museum was held.
November 30, 2004 The inaugural meeting of "Center of Observation and Research of Space Objects and Fragments of Chinese Academy of Sciences" and its unveiling ceremony were held in Purple Mountain Observatory.
November 2004 Fang Cheng of Nanjing University was awarded with the prize of scientific and technical progress of He Liang and He Li Foundation.
November 2004 CAS began to make approval and award of Zhang Yu-zhe prize. Wu Lian-da received this prize of the sixth term.
January 15-23, 2005 By the invitation of CAS, the director of European Southern Observatory and the president of IAU of the next term Dr. Cesarsky as well as the director of VLT Observatory Dr. Gilmozzi visited China.

April 2005 The Cross-Strait Working Committee of Astronomical Terms was formally established.
May 28, 2005 Vice-president of National People's Congress and president of Chinese Academy of Sciences Lu Yong-xiang and his followers inspected Sheshan Station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory.
June 3-4, 2005 The international conference on "Large-field Antarctic DOME C/A Patrol Telescope" was convened in Beijing.
June 2005 As a major item of the Knowledge Innovation Engineering of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the investigation of "Chinese Area Positioning System" (CAPS) has achieved large progress and passed the joint technical check and acceptance of experts of three ministries.
July 26-29, 2005 A delegation consisting of twenty more representatives of CAS joined the Ninth Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting of IAU in Indonesia. In this meeting, CAS successfully obtained the right of conducting the Tenth Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting of IAU.
July 2005 Purple Mountain Observatory, Sheshan Station of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, Yunnan Astronomical Observatory, Urumqi Astronomical Station，and Changchun Artificial Satellite Observation Station have been named as "Standard bases for entrance of juveniles and youth into scientific and technical activities".
August 2-7, 2005 "International Kanas scientific conference of pulsars" was held in Kanas of Xinjiang Province.
August 8-10, 2005 "Cross-strait symposium of astronomical telescopes and instruments" was held in Weihai City of Shandong Province.
September 10-14, 2005 The 1st meeting of the 7th session of astronomical terminology and the 1st meeting of Cross-strait Committee of Astronomical Terminology were convened in Qinhuangdao City of Hebei Province.
October 14-17, 2005 The 2005 annual meeting of CAS was held in Hefei City of Anhui Province. There were 262 representatives, 14 invited reports, 2 specially invited popular science reports, 101 reports in group meetings and 40 posted papers. The general secretary of IAU Prof. Engrold was invited to join this conference.
October 25 - November 2, 2005 The 10th International Astronomical Olympic was held in Beijing.
November 2005 Fang Cheng of Nanjing University was elected to be an academician of Academy of Sciences of the Developing Countries.
November 2005 Zhang Jia-lu of China University of Science and Technology was elected to be an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
November 2005 Zhang Jia-xiang of Purple Mountain Observatory was awarded with the prize of scientific and technical progress of He Liang & He Li Foundation.
December 12, 2005 The application for the sponsoring the 28th General Assembly of IAU was approved by State Council and Chinese Association of Science, then the official application was formally offered to IAU.
April 2006 Chairman of National Political Consultative Conference Jia Qing-lin inspected Purple Mountain Observatory.
May 6, 2006 The astronomical observatory of Lasa Middle School designed by Company of Astronomical Instruments was founded. This is the popular scientific observatory with the highest elevation in the world.
May 2006 The 50m radio telescope in Miyun, Beijing and 40m radio telescope in Kunming, Yunnan were constructed and put into operation.
June 12, 2006 The relations of professional guidance between CAS and Astronomical Societies of Heilongjiang and Zhejiang Provinces were formally established.
June 2006 CAS carried out the choice of laureates of Zhang Yu-zhe prize of the 7th and 8th terms. Wan Tong-shan got the Zhang Yu-zhe prize of the 7th term and Liu Lin -- that of the 8th term.
July 14-16, 2006 The international symposium of laser astronomical dynamics of the third session and the Sino-German bilateral symposium of laser astronomy of the first session were convened in Beijing.
August 14-25, 2006 A delegation of CAS with 60 representatives joined the 26th general assembly of IAU in Prague, Czech. In this assembly Beijing obtained the sponsorship of the 28th general assembly of IAU in Beijing. Fang Cheng continued to be a vice-president of IAU, Nan Ren-dong was elected to be the chairman of Division X and Commission 40.
October 26-29, 2006 The 2006 annual academic meeting of CAS was held in Shanghai. There were 250 representatives, 29 invited lectures and 2 specially invited popular science lectures as well as 169 reports in subcommissions.
October 30-31, 2006 The 11th national meeting of CAS was convened in Shanghai. There were 120 representatives. The eleventh executive council was elected, and Zhao Gang became its chairman.
November 2006 Li Ti-bei of Institute of High-Energy Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded with the prize of progress of science and technology of He Liang & He Li Foundation.
December 24, 2006 The Antarctic Astronomical Center of China was established in Purple Mountain Observatory.
April 17-20, 2007 A delegation of the Executive Committee of IAU led by the president-elect, Dr. Robert Williams, secretary-general, A. Karel, and Dr. van der Hucht visited China. CAS and IAU formally signed the agreement of sponsoring the 28th general assembly of IAU in Beijing in 2012.
April 29, 2007 Vice-president of National People's Congress and president of Chinese Academy of Sciences Lu Yong-xiang and his followers visited Shanghai Astronomical Observatory.
May 4, 2007 Chairman of National Political Consultative Conference Jia Qing-lin inspected Huairou Solar Observational Base of National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
May 12, 2007 The inauguration ceremony of the 2.4m optical telescope was held in Lijiang Observational Station of Yunnan Astronomical Observatory. A vice-president of National People's Congress and some other leading cadres joined the ceremony.
June 15-17, 2007 The second meeting of Working Committee of Cross-strait astronomical terminology was convened in Yangzhou.
July 4, 2007 The BPC low-frequency time-code continuous broadcasting station of National Time Service Center was built and began to carry out preliminary broadcasting.
July 27, 2007 Vice-president of National People's Congress and president of Chinese Academy of Sciences Lu Yong-xiang inspected Xinlong and Miyun Observational Stations of National Astronomical Observatories.
September 16, 2007 The opening ceremony of Gaolu Planetarium was held in Changle City of Fujian Province.
October 10, 2007 The first Antarctic telescope array CSTAR (the Star of China) jointly built by Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology, Purple Mountain Observatory and National Astronomical Observatories passed its check and acceptance at Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology.
October 15-19, 2007 The 248th scientific conference of IAU "A Giant Jump: Astronomy from the Degree of Angular Millisecond to that of Angular Microsecond" was convened in Shanghai.
October 22-26, 2007 The 249th scientific conference of IAU "Extraterrestrial Planets: Exploration, Formation and Dynamics" was convened in Suzhou.
October 30 - November 2, 2007 The 2nd session of "Cross-strait Conference of Astronomical Telescopes and Instruments" was held in Central University of Taiwan.
November 6-9, 2007 The international conference of the theory of black hole accretion disks sponsored by CAS was convened in Beijing.
November 22, 2007 CAS carried out the awarding of Huang Shou-shu Prize. Shan Wen-lei got this prize of the first term.
November 22-25, 2007 The 2007 annual academic meeting of CAS was held in Guangzhou. About 500 representatives joined it. There were 29 invited reports and 189 reports in group meetings.
November 26, 2007 Premier Wen Jia-bao uncovered the first picture of lunar surface secured by the first lunar exploration of our country. President of Academy of Sciences of China Lu Rong-xiang was present at the ceremony of release and sent a telegram of congratulation.
December 12, 2007 Central Committee of Communistic Party of China, National Council and Central Military Committee held an assembly to solemnly congratulate the success of the engineering of the first lunar exploration. Hong Xiao-yu and other seven persons got the title of "distinguished contributors of the engineering of the first lunar exploration". Shanghai Astronomical Observatory was awarded with the certificate of May 1 merit.
December 22, 2007 Member of the Political Bureau of Central Committee of Communistic Party of China and secretary of Municipal Committee of Shanghai Yu Zheng-sheng met in Shanghai with a part of scientists and technicians as well as management workers taking part in the lunar exploration engineering Chang-é No.1.
End of 2007 CAS has completed the compilation and writing of "Report on the Development and Research of Astronomical Science".
January 12-13, 2008 Scientific workers of Purple Mountain Observatory, National Astronomical Observatories and Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology successfully arrived at the iceberg A with height of 4093 meters -- the largest in Antarctic region, and they successfully installed the first Chinese Antarctic telescope array CSTAR.
April 6-11, 2008 IAU Symposium 252 "The art of modeling stars in 21th century" was convened in Sanya of Hainan Island.
June 27, 2008 Kavile Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Beijing University was founded.
August 1, 2008 The popular scientific activities on the topic of "Observations of 2008 solar total eclipse in our country" at two sites -- Jiayuguan in Gansu and Yiwu in Xinjiang -- were successfully carried out.
August 2-6, 2008 "Tenth Asian-Pacific Regional Meeting of IAU" was convened in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. There were 278 participants and 218 papers for interchange.
August 19-28, 2008 Chinese contestants joined the 2nd International Astronomical and Astrophysical Olympic Games.
August 24, 2008 On the day of successful closing of Olympic games in Beijing, the International Asteroid Center named an asteroid as "Beijing Olympic Star". It was discovered by Purple Mountain Observatory on October 12, 1977, and its international serial number is 23408.
August 28-31, 2008 The 2008 annual academic meeting of CAS was held in Jiaonan of Qingdao City, Shandong Province. There were more than 300 participants, 8 invited reports, 161 reports in division meetings and one invited popular science lecture.
August 2008 CAS carried out the choice of laureate of Zhang Yu-che prize. Wang Ya-nan obtained this prize of the 9th term.
October 11-12, 2008 Together with some related units in Beijing, National Astronomical Observatories inaugurated a series of activities to grandly commemorate the 400th anniversary of invention of telescope and the new vision field of science. In the Great Hall of the People a large-scale public lecture for 6000 persons was delivered.
October 16, 2008 The ceremony of completion of the major scientific and engineering item LAMOST was held in Xinglong Station of National Astronomical Observatories.
October 2009 Fang Cheng of Nanjing University was granted with the doctorate of Paris Observatory.
November 2008 Lu Tan of Purple Mountain Observatory received the prize of scientific and technical progress of He Liang & He Li scientific foundation.
December 19, 2008 Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) ratified the establishments of "Key Laboratory of Galaxies and Cosmology of CAS", "Key Laboratory of Solar Activity of CAS" and "Key Laboratory of Astronomical Optical Technology of CAS".

January 2009 After a reconstruction with modern techniques the BPL Long wave Broadcasting Station began to carry out 24 hours continuous broadcasting.
February 10, 2009 After the inauguration of the Large Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST), it was selected to be one of the ten major scientific achievements of China in 2008.
March 2009The Chinese VLBI network, consisting of four VLBI stations and Shanghai VLBI data-processing center, accomplished the task of orbit determination of Chang-é No.1 (CE-1) satellite.
April 26, 2009 The memorial assembly of 2009 International Astronomical Year was grandly convened in Jingxi Hotel in Beijing. About 700 persons joined it. The party secretary of Chinese Association of Sciences Deng Nan, vice-presidents of Chinese Academy of Sciences Bai Chun-li & Zhan Wen-long, associate general-secretary of IAU Dr. Corbett et al. were present. July 22, 2009 Under the guidance of CAS and in cooperation with the solar eclipse working group of IAU, the multiwavelenth and multidisciplinary total solar eclipse observational activities in Yangtze River Valley were carried out in Anji County of Zhejiang Province.

October 1, 2009 The LAMOST, as one of the symbolic achievements of our country in the new region of scientific and technical innovation, appeared on the screen of float array of "scientific development" in the celebration of 60th National Day. Besides, LAMOST was put on display in the exhibition of achievements of our republic in the 60 years since its founding.

November 2009 Cui Xiang-qun of Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology was elected to be an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

November 2010 CAS carried out comments on the conferring of Zhang Yu-zhe prize of 10th term. Ma Yu-qian received this prize.
November 4, 2010 The 12th national assembly of representatives of CAS was held in Nanning, Guangxi. There were 122 representatives. The twelfth executive council was elected and Cui Xiang-quan became the chairman.
November 8, 2010 Premier Wen Jia-bao joined the ceremony of unveiling of lunar surface images of spacecraft Chang-é II and unveiled the images.
November 2010 By invitation of National Association of Science as well as some related departments in Hong Kong and Macao, Su Ding-qiang visited these two cities, and as a contemporary distinguished Chinese scientist he delivered public lectures.
December 16, 2010 The superconductor imaging spectrometer made by Purple Mountain Observatory passed the check and acceptance of Chinese Academy of Sciences. This device was the first multiple-wavelength receiver made in the international radio astronomy community.
December 20, 2010 In the assembly of celebration of the full success of the lunar exploration engineering Chang-e II of our country, 22 units including National Astronomical Observatories, Shanghai Astronomical Observatory and Purple Mountain Observatory obtained the title of "units of distinguished contribution", Yan Jun and other 19 scientific and technical workers in the astronomical community obtained the title of "outstanding contributors".
January 7, 2011 The supporting platform of Antarctic ice vault A jointly made by Purple Mountain Observatory and Southeast University started to operate at Kunlun Station. This is the first Antarctic platform of scientific exploration independently designed, manufactured and operated by our country.
January 18, 2011 The name of Urumqi Astronomical Station of Chinese Academy of Sciences was changed to be Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory of National Astronomical Observatories of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
March 2011 The satellite item of hard X-ray modulation telescope (HXMT) was formally registered and entered the engineering phase.
March 2011 College of Astronomy and Space Science of Nanjing University was established. The new speciality of space science and technology was approved by Ministry of Education.
