MPI is launching an online study guide to assist meeting professionals in preparing for the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) exam offered through the Convention Industry Council (CIC).
What does CMP stand for?
Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) - The CMP designation acknowledges individuals who have achieved one of the industry's highest standards of professionalism in planning and managing meetings and events.
What does the MPI CMP Online Study Guide provide?
The study guide provides a stream-lined program to assist industry professionals preparing to take the CMP exam. The MPI CMP Online Study Guide allows individuals to study at their own pace and can be used independently or in conjunction with group study programs offered by many of MPI’s worldwide chapters.
Do I need an internet connection to use the MPI CMP Online Study Guide?
Yes. We recommend a high speed connection for the most positive viewing experience.
How much is the registration fee for the MPI CMP Online Study Guide?

How long is the MPI CMP Online Study Guide program?
The on-line content consists of five modules totaling approximately two hours of viewing, plus and an additional two hours total for the quizzes at the end of each module, and three hours for the final practice exam.
How do I access the MPI CMP Online Study Guide?
The program content is available online. It cannot be downloaded, but can be accessed and viewed online anytime, at your convenience, as often as you like. You can book-mark your progress, and the next time you access, pick-up where you left off.
Are there practice quizzes/tests?
Yes, there is a practice quiz at the end of each module, and a mock exam at the end of the series.
How does this program compare to other online CMP exam preparation alternatives?
There is only one other online CMP exam preparation program. PCMA offers a CMP Online Prep Course which is a more detailed study program at a considerably higher price point ($299 PCMA members/$399 non-members).
Is the MPI CMP Online Study Guide all I need to prepare for the CMP exam?
To qualify to sit for the CMP exam, you must fill out an application form, pay a fee, and have three years experience in the meeting industry. Visit the CIC website, www.conventionindustry.org for additional details on the exam itself.
Can I purchase additional CMP exam preparation materials through MPI?

How long does it take to receive my user id and access to the program materials after I register?
User id’s are created by our partner, Arizona State University (ASU), between 8:00am – 5:00pm (mtz) Mon-Fri. After you register for the program it could take up to three days to receive your user id from ASU.
What if I forget my user id and/or password?
Passwords and user ids can be reset by ASU by emailing the request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
What is the difference between the CMM & CMP designation?
The CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation, awarded by the Convention Industry Council, recognizes expertise in the more tactical and operational aspects of meeting planning, and is designed for individuals with three to five years of industry experience,. The Global Certification for Meeting Management (CMM), awarded by MPI, recognizes achievement of a higher level of strategic expertise, and is designed for professionals with more than 10 years of industry experience. In some ways the CMP designation is like a bachelor's degree, while the CMM is like a Master's degree.
