John Vernon has worked for 20 years in United Technologies Corporation. He currently serves as Vice President and General Manager, Global Fire Suppression for United Technologies Fire and Security, located in Ashland, Massachusetts. Prior to this assignment, John served as the Managing Director of UTC Fire and Security Distribution France, where he led the consolidation of the French fire businesses into a single entity.
For 18 years prior to joining United Technologies Fire and Security, John held posts of increasing responsibility in United Technologies’ Carrier air conditioning division. In 2007-09, John was the President, Residential Light Commercial International for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, based in Paris, France. Previously, he served as Vice-President, Distribution in the same division.
Immediately prior to transferring to France, John spent eight years in the Asia Pacific region. In 2004-06, he was Executive Vice President, Toshiba Carrier Corporation Japan supporting the Toshiba Carrier Corporation joint venture, where he coordinated activities with existing Carrier operations and facilitated the growth of Toshiba brand HVAC products outside of Japan. He simultaneously served as the Global Platform Leader for Carrier’s international residential product range. For four and one-half years preceding his transfer to Japan, John was the Managing Director of the Toshiba Carrier Thailand factory, located in Pathum Thani, Thailand. Prior to this assignment, John held a variety of functional and management positions at Carrier locations in Brunei, California, New York, Italy, and Japan.
John joined Carrier in 1991 through the Leadership Associates program. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and History from University of Virginia, a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Chicago, and an MBA and master’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Virginia. He also served for four years on the Darden Corporate Advisory Board.
