Aviation Program Articulation

Academic Years 2007 - 2009
This document is an articulation agreement between Green River Community College and Big Bend Community College and is designed for the Green River Community College Aviation student who wishes to complete their Commercial pilot training at the Big Bend Community College Aviation program.
The GRCC/BBCC Course Comparison List is a depiction of the aviation (Professional Pilot) courses taught by both Green River Community College (GRCC) and Big Bend Community College (BBCC).  It also depicts the courses that are equivalent and is the basis of the articulation agreement.  The overall intent of the articulation is to make it possible for students to complete the GRCC program with a Private Pilot Certificate and transfer to BBCC to complete the flight training appropriate for the Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot Certificate.  Equivalent courses already completed on the GRCC campus, would be transferred to the BBCC campus and the training would continue through completion.  Four lessons at the beginning of BBCC’s AVF 251, Commercial Pilot Flight (Stage 4) would be dedicated to familiarizing the transfer student with the standardized procedures and common practices used in the BBCC’s flight training program.  All other training is the same for all students.
After conversation between both programs, it is understood that a typical GRCC aviation transfer student will bring to the BBCC flight program a private pilot certificate, and the associated ground school courses (AVIA 111, Private Pilot Ground School; AVIA 123, Aviation Weather; AVIA 211, Aerodynamics for Pilots; AVIA 230, Private Pilot Flight; and BUS 100, Fundamentals of Microcomputer).  These courses are equivalent with BBCC’s first year courses for stage 1, 2, and 3 private pilot training and ground schools (AVF 112, Private Pilot Ground School; AVF 113, Meteorology; AVF 114, Theory of Flight; AVF 141, Private Pilot Flight (Stage 1); AVF 142, Private Pilot Flight (Stage 2); AVF 143, Private Pilot Flight (Stage 3); and CSC 100, Microcomputer Software Survey or CSC 108, Introduction to Microsoft Applications).  Also GRCC students typically have completed AVIA 216, Instrument Pilot Ground School.  This would be equivalent with BBCC’s AVF 223, Instrument Ground School and would only be accepted if the student had obtained the private certificate before enrolling in the course (under part 141) and will start instrument training within one year of course completion.  Students would then proceed through BBCC aviation curriculum, starting with stage 4 flight training (AVF 251).  BBCC offers the opportunity for GRCC transfer students to sit in on at no charge any AVF 223 Instrument Pilot Ground School if they have previously taken the course and it is not required that they enroll here. This would be an option for those wishing to refresh their knowledge of this material and would be a necessity for those who’s previous Instrument Ground School was completed more than one year before the Instrument Flight training (AVF 261).
Students, who transfer to BBCC’s flight program having already completed any of the second year aviation courses below the double dotted line on the GRCC/BBCC Course Comparison List, will have those courses accepted on a case-by-case basis. Students who do not have the Private Pilot Certificate completed before coming to BBCC will start their flight training in AVF 141, Private Pilot Flight (Stage 1).
