1.9 YOUR SALARY, LUNCH TICKETS, AND OTHER PAYMENTS



Comptroller’s Office and Initial Paperwork :





The Office of the Comptroller’s Office:, Ms. Nilgün Tüzün (Ext. 1610) and her staff, are in charge of all work related to payments of salaries, housing payments and the like.
The following documents should be submitted to the Comptroller’s Office through your faculty secretary. Different documents are requiredested from Non-Turkish and Turkish cCitizens for the payment of their salaries.:
Non-Turkish Citizens::

The following documents must be submitted to the Comptroller’s Office in order to receive a salary:

Copy of Passport




  • 3 color passport-size photographs



  • 1 copy each of work and residence permits

  • Copy of passport



  • An account number from Koçbank. (YTL and USD)

Turkish Citizenss:

:

The following documents must be submitted to the Comptroller’s Office:

Social Security Card (SSK Sicil Kartı) if available OR a photocopy of his or her ID




  • 3 color passport-size photographs



  • Copy of rthe Retirement dDocument (Emeklilik Cüzdan Kopyası) (if applicable)



  • An account number from Koçbank. (TLYTL and USD)

  • Social Security card (SSK Sicil Kartı) if available OR a photocopy of his or her ID







Salaries:

Salaries are automatically deposited into each employee’s Koçbank campus branch account on the last business day of every month. No advance payment withdrawal will be given unless there is an extraordinary case such aslike getting married, becoming hospitalizationed, death of a family member or birth of a child.




USEFUL TIP:
Using ATMs: Your salary can also be withdrawn from Garanti Bank, Akbank, Vakıfbank and Dışbank ATM machines with your Koç Bank ATM card and pin number.


Pay Stub and Utilities’ Invoice

At the end of each month, you will receive a pay stub which details your deductions. You will also receive an invoice for your utilities (electricity, heating, and water). See Section 2.10 for more details on your utilities’ invoice.



Taxes


Taxes: The tax law in Turkey is somewhat complicated and different from that of the US or any other country. Net salary can vary from month to month because the tax is based on the cumulative salary paid to date. Typically, salaries quoted in contracts are gross amounts per month. Each month you will receive a paycheck stub showing the gross salary and deductions made from your salary.

Koç University does not make long-term loans to employees. Interested parties should contact Koçbank for information on long-term loans.



USEFUL TIPS:

Your salary can also be withdrawn from Garanti Bank, Akbank, Vakıfbank and Dışbank ATM machines with your Koç Bank ATM card and pin number.






Lunch Tickets and Sodexho Tickets:

Every month, each employee is provided with lunch tickets. Those who do not wish to use the lunch tickets may ask for the monthly shopping tickets called SodexhoODEXO. These are special tickets that can be used to pay for food at most fast food restaurants such as Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and other restaurants in town that display a SodexhoODEXO or Ticket Restaurant sticker.



USEFUL TIP:
Restaurants Accepting Sodexho: For more information on restaurants that accept Sodexho tickets, see Section 3.15 2.15. Some more upscale restaurants accept Sodexho tickets although the sticker is not displayed. You can ask by saying “Sodexho geçiyor mu?”

Using An Expense Account:

When charging things to the expense account, the receipts for the expenses incurred in Turkey should be made out to Koç University, Rumelifeneri Yolu, Sarıyer. The tax number is Sarıyer Vergi Dairesi No. 9240033265. Visa slips for international and national trips are not accepted as receipts. (Please also ask for an invoice or a receipt with the slip).



Travel Reimbursement:

All official travel expenses must be itemized, documented and submitted to the Comptroller. Each travel request must be approved and signed by the appropriate administration officer on the travel and& expense forms provided by the faculty secretary of each College. Copies of the approved documents must be given to the Dean’s Office who will submit them to the Comptrollers Office in order to give advance travel pay.

Koç University does not have a per diem system for travel. The University reimburses the approved hotel fee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the transportation to and from the hotel up to a certain amount, which differs for each department. All expenses concerning the travel must be submitted within a week of return to the secretary of the Dean for approval.


USEFUL TIPS:
Making Calls from Hotels: In Turkey, Pphone calls, especially overseas calls, when made from a hotel are very expensive. MPlease make your long distance calls through the local PTT telephone system.

When traveling in Turkey, carry your passport, work permit, Koç ID and marriage certificate (especially if your last name is different than your spouse’s).
