Specialized Section on Standardization of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
Geneva, 29 May – 1 June 2012
Item 4 (c) of the provisional agenda
Revision of UNECE Standards
Proposals by Turkey on
UNECE Standard FFV-13 concerning the marketing and
commercial quality control of Cherries (2010 Edition)
1. Item Annex
(iv) Sour Cherry Varieties
The main cherry varieties are as follows:
Other varieties can be marketed by stating their names and origins.
The current standard is applied to cherries of varieties grown from Prunus avium L. and Prunus cerasus L. and their hybrids. According to the provisions concerning marking, the name of the variety can be marked optionally. However, the standard does not have a list of varieties.
The interpretation and/or application is different among some countries. For instance, varieties grown from Prunus cerasus L. are not always considered in the scope of the standard. Accordingly, this may cause problems in the export of these varieties to those markets.
Therefore, Turkey proposes to annex a non-exhaustive list of varieties to the standard. A few suggestions of varieties grown in Turkey are listed above.
2. Item VI.
F. Lot No.
Packages in the same consignment and/or subject to control at the same time by the official control service should be marked with a unique lot number.
In order to provide traceability in production and effectiveness in official controls, packages in the same consignment and/or subject to control at the same time by the official inspection service should bear a unique “Lot no.”.
