|WBA SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS
The WBA will award ten $1,000 scholarships for the 2015-2016 academic year.
In order to be considered, the following must be submitted by the applicant:
Additionally, the applicant’s guidance counselor or principal must complete and send the following:
Applicant must be a dependent of a parent or guardian employed by a full-time WBA member in good standing
Parent/guardian must have been employed on a continual full-time basis for a minimum of two years as of the scholarship application deadline, or have been employed part-time (20 hours or more) for a minimum of 4 years
Eligibility extends to children of parents who were deceased no more than two years prior to cutoff date of application
Applicant must have received, or is expected to receive, a high school diploma or GED
Applicant must be accepted for full-time enrollment (as defined by the accredited educational institution) as a freshman in an undergraduate course of study which offers courses beyond the high school level. Enrollment at any accredited college or university, including community college and technical college, will be considered.
SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS
Selection will be based on a student’s academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service. The WBA will select scholarship recipients on an objective and nondiscriminatory basis. WBA will not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or religion. The WBA may, however, take into account criteria reasonably related to the purposes of the WBA scholarship program.
Scholarship recipients will be notified in June 2016 and announced at the WBA annual convention. Scholarship recipients may be asked to participate in a photo shoot. After the recipients are announced, they will notify the WBA scholarship committee of the educational institution they will be attending and provide their student ID number and other pertinent information. Scholarship checks will be sent directly to each recipient’s college or university.

FORFEITURE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
If the parent/ guardian leaves the employ of the voting WBA member, or if the institution where the parent/guardian is employed discontinues its WBA membership or is purchased by a non-WBA member, the scholarship is NOT forfeited. However, the balance of the scholarship must be returned if the student withdraws from the educational institution.
