President’s Column
Hello all,
Hope you’re all ready for the excitement of election season! No, not the upcoming mid-term election; the election of officers for our club! Ok, so it might not be as exciting as a Ross Perot vs. William Jennings Bryan vs. Jesse Ventura contest, but it provides an opportunity for you to personally help the club keep doing all the great stuff we do. (I would pay to see that Perot-Bryan-Ventura battle, though). Nominations will be the first meeting this month with the election held at the second meeting.
Of particular importance is the office of Recording Secretary, as without one we won’t have the information about what goes on at our meetings to include in the newsletter. It’s a big help for those who aren’t always able to make the meetings. Uncle Sam (Moore) wants you! The mint director from 1824-1835… Anybody? Too obscure? Ok, so much for that campaign slogan.
While the vote for club officers will have to wait for our second meeting this month, you’ll be able to get your voting fix at the first meeting as well. The designs for this year’s club medal design contest will be there for you view. We’ve got a good variety to choose from, including some junior entries, so be sure to check them out.
I think we can safely assume a unanimous vote in favor of this year’s club picnic. Thanks always too Robert Samuel for being grill master, to eminent numismatist and Italian Soda specialist L. Randal Solomon, and to Hal DeBoard, the wizard of bingo. My appeals to the bingo gods continued to go unanswered. It seems the voice of the common man falls on deaf ears. Maybe I need to get Hal to lobby them for me.
